About

Who is writing this, and why

I am David Cole. I have taught English for two decades — first in classrooms, then online, and for the last several years mostly one-to-one with adults who are fitting lessons around jobs and families. The methods in this course are the ones that survived that shift.

What this course is

The Global Classroom is a free, serialized course on teaching English. New lessons publish Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Each one takes about four minutes to read and ends with a single technique you can use in your next lesson — not a philosophy, not a framework, one thing you can try tomorrow.

It is written specifically for independent tutors. That means no staffroom, no director of studies, no budget for training, and no patience for advice that assumes a class of twenty and a coursebook someone else chose.

Teachers Together

Teachers Together is a small community of independent language tutors who share materials, techniques, and the occasional complaint. It exists because working alone is the hardest part of this job, and because the professional development available to freelance teachers is usually either expensive or empty.

This course is one of the things Teachers Together publishes. It will stay free, it will stay ad-free, and it will not ask you for your email address.
